Many people know Google as Internet Search Engine. Some people know that Google also has other applications other than the Search Engine. Not many people know the complete list of Google applications. Below is the list of Google applications that I know of. Most of Google applications/ services are offered for free. By knowing these application, you can use them to make your life easier.

Akankan Facebook Menaklukkan Google dan Dunia?

Hari ini saya membaca tulisan menarik di Swara Muslim tentang rencana Facebook untuk menaklukkan Google dan menguasai dunia. Dalam tulisan tersebut diberitakan bahwa Mark Zuckerberg, mbah nya Facebook, sedang merancang suatu mega project untuk mencegah mesin pencari Google menemukan informasi dalam dunia Facebook.

Saya sendiri membaca gerakan mega project ini sebagai salah satu bocoran dari super mega project yang lebih besar lagi dibaliknya. Pasalnya yang disebut dengan mega project untuk memblokir mesin pencari Google itu tidak akan membawa dampak besar bagi Google dengan kondisi Facebook yang seperti sekarang ini. Hal ini bisa dibuktikan dengan cara mencari suatu keping informasi melalui Google. Dari hasil pencarian tersebut, hanya sebagian kecil saja yang berasal dari Facebook. Kebesaran Facebook saat ini belum ada apa-apanya jika dibandingkan dengan keseluruhan informasi yang tersebar di Internet. Hasil pencarian mesin pencari Google sendiri bagi kebanyakan orang mewakili sebagian besar dari informasi di Internet tersebut. Saya memang tidak mempunyai data persis tentang kemampuan mesin pencari Google dibandingkan total informasi di Internet, karena memang hampir mustahil untuk secara pasti mendapatkan data tentang berapa total besarnya informasi di Internet. Tapi jika hasil pencarian Google itu dibandingkan dengan hasil pencarian di lingkup Facebook sendiri, jelas mesin pencari Google masih jauh lebih unggul. Tapi sekali lagi, ini jika kita melihat kondisi Facebook saat ini.

Lalu mengapa Facebook ngotot ingin membatasi mesin pencari Google masuk ke dalam wilayah Facebook? Saya melihat ada ambisi besar dari Facebook untuk menyedot informasi di Internet ke dalam dunia Facebook. Hal ini terlihat dengan semakin meningkatnya pengguna Facebook di seluruh dunia. Selain itu juga terlihat indikasi aplikasi-aplikasi Facebook yang semakin menggelembung. Mulai dari aplikasi-aplikasi permainan/ games, kalender, blog, buku harian, sampai ke kirim-kiriman kartu ucapan. Di kemudian hari seiring dengan semakin meningkatnya pengguna Facebook, bukannya tidak mungkin Facebook akan menggandeng perusahaan-perusahaan pembuat aplikasi Facebook untuk semakin memperluas jangkauan fungsi aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut. Misalkan aplikasi Facebook kedepannya akan bisa digunakan untuk video chatting, untuk menonton/ menyewa video, mengintegrasikan perpustakaan digital sedunia, atau fungsi-fungsi lain yang bermanfaat untuk dunia usaha seperti aplikasi team collaboration, online meeting, knowledge base, dan sebagainya. Inti dari usaha ini adalah untuk menyedot informasi di Internet sebanyak-banyaknya ke dunia Facebook dan menjadikan facebook sebagai gerbang tunggal untuk mengakses Internet. Artinya apapun kebutuhan kita di Internet bisa dilayani melalui Facebook.

Bila Facebook bisa mencapai kondisi seperti yang diuraikan di atas, barulah mega project untuk membendung Google masuk ke wilayah Facebook menjadi efektif dalam mengerdilkan Google. Apakah Facebook berhasil memenuhi ambisinya menaklukkan Google dan dunia? Kita lihat saja bagaimana perkembangan selanjutnya. Tentunya Google dan "pemain-pemain" lainnya tidak tinggal diam.
